Rex Sang is the data scientist of Enodo, an automated underwriting platform for multifamily real estate. Rex works with the data science team extensively to analyze real estate data and develops Enodo’s predictive algorithms. Rex utilizes his technical skills in data science and domain knowledge in real estate to streamline the business model in real estate including mortgage refinancing analytics, operating expenses benchmark predictions as well as market analysis. Rex was awarded Fifty for the Future by Illinois Technology Foundation (ITF) in 2017 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign as well as Master of Science in Computational Finance from DePaul University.
Nowadays data science is virtually everywhere - from the image process to natural language processing; from the technology industry to the financial industry, etc. There’re many opportunities now to disrupt the industry with data science using the power of big data and machine learning.
On the other hand, because there are gaps, sometimes can be substantial, between traditional industry and data science, it can be tricky to apply the most advanced data science techniques when working in traditional industry using Deep Learning or NLP. The key to solving the issue is to gain as much domain knowledge as possible and keep communicating with the experts in the domain.
In this presentation, Rex will discuss the application of data science in real estate with stories at work, especially the importance of applying domain knowledge into data science projects. Techniques like Deep Learning, NLP will also be in discussion during the presentation. At the meantime, Rex will also talk about the trend in data science, including the skills, techniques people are looking for nowadays as well as the current trend of data science job market.
